400 years

Dendrochronology
How old is this tree?
Look at its rings.
The changes in seasons make lines annually.
This tree was four hundred years old.
2009-400=1609.
This sapling sat next to a waterfall.
Providing shelter to the Neutrals, Iroquois and Huron.
Later to the pioneers, United Empire Loyalists and the Webster family.
Later still to the tired hiker in need of shade.
It sat through the Seven Years War, the War of 1812 and Confederation.
Alone, on its perch.
It watched our country form.
and then it died.
The shadow of the past lingers, within it.

Izavella's 'La scapiglia'

Thesis
Da Vinci's portrayal of women, seen in his religious paintings or sketches, have great similarities that reach even further than simply being the womanly ideals of the period. They appear to be the same person.

I've always considered these similarities interesting, perhaps even more so because my sister has an uncanny resemblance to these Da Vinci women. This is lucky for me, as I do intend to recreate some more of Da Vinci's classics (though perhaps not the last example).

For example
Head of a woman
Head of a woman
St. Anne
Leda and the Swan

Nostalgic

Superfluous
I've come to realize that large bodies of text underneath works of art add to the wonder and create emphasis to a piece. As you can see I've been trying this out on my profile and am enjoying the effect. So really, just ignore my nonsensical drivel under each work - consider it an extra frame for the photograph.
Kudos to the people who actually do read this stuff, you must be pretty bored. :]

So for my birthday back in May, I got a bunch of canvases and I finally am getting some spare time to be able to do something with them. How exciting! I also just got a new apartment that needs some serious decorating. So for the last little while I've been surfing DeviantArt, coming up with some interesting idea and amassing a collection of beautiful works in my fave gallery. Hopefully I'll put brush to canvas in the next couple of weeks and if anything interesting/successful comes out of it, then I'll post it on DA.

In the meantime, I'll feature some of my very favourite paintings that I've stumbled upon recently and if any of you would like to recommend any other artist(s) I may be interested in looking at, then that would be greatly appreciated!
