| Dendrochronology How old is this tree? Look at its rings. The changes in seasons make lines annually. This tree was four hundred years old. 2009-400=1609. This sapling sat next to a waterfall. Providing shelter to the Neutrals, Iroquois and Huron. Later to the pioneers, United Empire Loyalists and the Webster family. Later still to the tired hiker in need of shade. It sat through the Seven Years War, the War of 1812 and Confederation. Alone, on its perch. It watched our country form. and then it died. The shadow of the past lingers, within it. It stung like a violent wind,
That our memories depend,
On a faulty camera in our minds."
